Blurb

A woman disappears. A public office says nothing. And the only man looking for her does not know what he does at night.

Markus Weber has lost everything — his wife, his work, his footing. What is left is one sentence, repeated to him by every letter from the office: nicht mehr zuständig — no longer responsible.

When Andrea, his caseworker at the Jobcenter, does not come back from her holiday, he is the only one who notices. Nobody is looking for her. So he looks.

But the closer he comes to the truth, the more hours go missing. Routes he must have walked. Wounds he cannot explain. And on his phone there is a voice recording — four minutes, nine seconds — that he has not dared to play since the first day. Because the voice on it may be his own.

How far do you go for the only person who still sees you? And what if the most dangerous man in this story is the one whose name you carry?

The artefact — the recording

Four minutes and nine seconds, recorded at 14:52. He never deleted it — not through the questioning, not through the lawyers, not through the nights. At the end, after a long pause in which you hear nothing but his breathing, his voice says one more thing, more quietly, and it is meant for whoever would listen one day. Too late. Then a click. Silence.

Not every artefact sits in a display case. Some you carry in your pocket: Namenlos.
